Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Job Summary:

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be responsible for overseeing accurate and timely payroll processing, managing employee benefits programs, and assisting with compensation administration within UKG products. Experience in report creation within UKG/Business Intelligence. This individual should have a strong understanding of payroll best practices, benefit plan administration, and compensation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Process and maintain accurate payroll records for all employees in compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for domestic bi-monthly and monthly global payroll cycles, including calculations for regular pay, overtime, bonuses, and other forms of compensation.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports to appropriate departments.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate and up-to-date employee information is in the payroll system.
  • Ensure timely and accurate quarterly and annual federal, state, and local payroll tax filings.
  • Reconcile semi-monthly general ledger and monthly payroll back statement.
  • Function as a liaison with global payroll agencies and internal clients to help make employee changes for payroll and research and resolve HR systems issues.

Benefits

  • Administer Katun’s qualified health, welfare, and retirement plans in accordance with plan documents.
  • Process monthly benefit billings, reviewing billings for accuracy by conducting audits against payroll, and resolve discrepancies with carriers/vendors.
  • Partner with Katun’s Benefits Broker to prepare, distribute, and continually update benefits communication materials on new and existing benefits to ensure employee understanding of available benefits and benefit communication is accurate and current, including open enrollment.
  • Maintain current knowledge of related legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements regarding benefit plans, including ERISA laws and changes, COBRA, ACA, ADA, HIPPA, and EGTRRA to ensure ongoing compliance in benefits administration.
  • Case management of employment leaves; FMLA, STD, and LTD. Ensure employees understand their leaves.
  • Support the Human Resources department in document maintenance and filing.
  • Assist employees with benefit-related inquiries and provide guidance on benefit plan options.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure payroll data accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Stay up to date with changes in payroll regulations and best practices.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual salary surveys to ensure internal compensation remains competitive in the market.
  • Support compensation analysis by gathering data and participating in salary surveys.
  • Participate in special projects related to payroll, benefits, and compensation as assigned.

Employee Engagement Committee

  • Actively participate in Katuns Employee Engagement Committee.
  • Plan and implement activities designed to engage and motivate employees.
  • Create a positive and productive workplace culture.
  • Provide feedback on the survey, survey process, results, communication strategies, and action-planning approaches.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in payroll administration, benefits administration, or compensation administration.
  • UKG experience within the payroll and benefit portals.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of payroll processing and regulations.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and payroll software, preferably UKG.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
  • Experience working in a multi-state payroll environment.
  • Familiarity with compensation analysis and market survey methodologies.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:*

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
  • Hybrid work schedule – in office Tuesday-Thursday.
